Nice find! No crack to me. I think you hit your digger with it. That's what usually happens with dug up coins.

i found it coin roll hunting

I don't see a crack either. I see some old probably scratched up/damaged areas though.

Possibly a delamination.

Metal missing (or nearly so) from the surface due to incomplete bonding in the planchet

I've fractured zinc cents in ice before when picking them out, clean breaks too. Don't know if yours got smacked when cold or just scratched, the pic does not quite have the resol;ution necessary to help identify but it does look more like a scratch.

uhhh...well it coulda been sitting on something for a long time..something that happened to discolor it from the edge of that something that it was on to the rest of the coin. Think of it like putting a piece of tape on only half of a coin and letting it sit for 50 years. Who knows...

i know what ur talking about i dug a penny in the ground with tap on it but i can feel this scratch/crack with my figure nail its not deep but if it was tap or sitting on something would one side wear down before the other? :icon_king:

I don't think this is a dye crack...

Lucky

As luck would have it.. back when I would go through many... many wheats.. I've seen this.. it is a planchet flaw... when they coldroll the copper sometime there is a seam between the copper they used or it didn't bond correctly due to some issue with the copper itself.. oil.. grease or dirt... I had one that had a huge piece fall of after it was struck... it is a error coin.. just a minor error that does not command any real extra value... seems to be mostly pre 1930s coins that I have seen it on...

Good find...

it's from space, lol
