Whats your largest Penny dump?

Re: What's your largest Penny dump?

nice! you've been hitting the pennies hard!

my biggest penny dump was about 180 dollars worth only.

Re: What's your largest Penny dump?

My biggest was whatever was remaining from a $25 brick. :D

Re: What's your largest Penny dump?

personally I never dump over 15,000 pennies at one time. even if I have 50,000 to dump, I'll go to three branches and dump about 15,000 at each, and then hold the last 5,000 for the next dump in a day or two ... or five days later. I do it to make sure I am not burdening the bank too much with a large dump all at once. It fills their storage space that they use until the truck comes, and it is a burden on them to change bags so often. to BRAG of 17 bag changes in one dump? I see that as great for you but terrible for them. Where will they store 17 bags? Have you seen the designated area for coin storage? Did you time it specifically for the day they are picked up so they were not held overnight? Did you care that someone had to focus on you and ignore other responsibilities for a LONG time to do that? No, I think doing that is wrong, and I personally don't do that much of a dump at one time. EVER.

Just my opinion. And I've seen others (not saying you. REALLY not saying you) that have bragged of large numbers, and then two months later they moan that their bank cut them off. Instead of saying "I overdid it and they stopped me" they moaned about how the bank is being unfair to them. You can find those posts if you look. They are real. Overdoing it will kill the opportunity to do this great hobby, if we abuse the people who are there for us.

My thoughts. :-)

Re: What's your largest Penny dump?

JRF I agree with most of what you say, since for me dumping is more important than finding silver almost, to keep turning over the big volume.

gotta spread it out, but you have to be smart about it to. Smaller branches have exponentially less coin storage space, but some main branches I go to have 10-15 teller windows + multiple merchant lines and can store 100 bags of coins for all the laundrymats, apartment buildings, newspaper man, vending man, etc. Theres one guy who brings in 18 bags of quarters 2x a week to one of my big branches, he has like 150 newspaper stands or something crazy and he services them all himself!

So don't be to harsh :whip2:

In the big picture even a monster CRH'r is a small fry compared to the dumps some of these merchant clients bring in.

Appreciate the thoughts. I have it set up with them where I bring it in the day before they ship out and I also take good care of them. It's all about treating people right and not being a jerk about it. Your dump back is what makes it all possible. :sign13:

I think they actually get a kick out of it all. I was just curious if anyone else has a big dump bank. I know their bags are 5k apiece so it's really only 9 bags :argue:

Only kidding as I see your point and good for people to keep in mind.

Not like some people around here but now that I have a supply bank for bags it's made my numbers grow. Between my wife and I we can go through and hand sort about 5k an hour so it's not all that much.

Re: What's your largest Penny dump?

My biggest penny dump was $300 but it was fairly easy as I used 6 of the plastic lock bags to dump them. I just had to count them out ahead of time and fill the bags. Generally when I use the coin counter, I only dump what I can take in with one trip. Sometimes two containers, sometimes just one. They may have around $300 or $400 in them. Never had to have more than one bag change at a time when I dump but it seems like I have a bag change each time I dump, too. I apologize for "breaking" their machine and they usually always smile and say it's ok, that lots of folks use it throughout the day and they stay busy changing the bags anyway.

Hardly a brag, just a matter-of-fact response to OP's question.

I phoned ahead and spoke with the branch manager. I told him how much I had. I asked if I should make multiple trips, or do all at once. I asked what day and what time of day to do it. He picked the day and time and chose to have it all at once. On the scheduled day, I called ahead and asked if it was OK to do it that day. They agreed with no hint of annoyance.

I picked a branch way out of my way - not because I was worried that they would cut me off, but because it is the only one that I know of with a self service machine. All other branches that I use have the machine behind the teller counter. I did all of the lifting of my coin - I even moved the filled bags to the counter as she pulled them.

I can say with absolute certainty that this dump did not harm the hobby for me or any other CRH'er.

I have been back there once since August with a "Normal" dump. For me, a normal dump is far less than $150 in cents. They did remember me as the 17 bag customer even though they didn't do a bag change that day.

I ate a couple cents when I was a kid...I think it was three. That dump hurt like hell

Wonderful. :icon_thumleft: That's what I'm talking about. I just want us allto make sure that we do it right. that we don't burn our dump bridges and end up being cut off.

Glad you called and did it that way. And the advise still is good for others to be careful. So both work.

Excellent point jrf. I should have outlined the approach when I mentioned the large dump. Without that, a fresh CRH'er might think such a dump is routine.

I try to be the most courteous dumper I can. Every time I approach the teller window with a bag of coin, I always ask if they have time to run some coin. They have never said no. I suppose if they ever do, I'll have to honor that answer and come back some other time.
