Wheat Penny and Military artifact??

Found these today beside an old house that was built in the 1850s. One is a wheat penny that I havnt cleaned yet, and the other item says U.S on it. Any clue to what it may be? Thanks!

It's a horse bridal rosette..CW period. A good find. Congrats
