Okay, so I know wheat pennies aren't typically worth that much, but I have a huge hoard I got from going through my dad's old piggy banks and stuff. I have a big tool box full and a few big ziplock bags. I was just wondering if I should be on the lookout for something, any dates or anything, and also how to go about sorting all of it. The dates seem to range all over the place. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I might be weird but its my favored coin, love digging them up... first thing is don't leave them staked like that it will destroy good coins with scratches...

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that you would put a person's head on one side of a coin and then put the memorial of that person on the back...

Look for pennies made during WWII. They will be steel ( gray colored) instead of the normal color. Idk how valuable they are but they are cool as there aren't that many b/c of small time frame manufactured.

1914 d and 1955, and 1909 vdb.

the '55 you are looking for the double die stamp. if you find a 1943 copper, or a 1944 steel you've hit a jackpot, and will give me a slice of the pie, right.

I'm trying to figure out Post #11. LilMunchie says they "just found 7 of the steel 1943 wheat pennies", but look at the date on the photo.

I have looked through 10,000 plus a few times . I feel the best way is to separate all of them by 10 or so years , I first separate them from 1909-1919 / 20-29 / 30-39 / 40-49 / and 50's . This can be done in a very fast manner . Then you can easily dismiss the dates that are worth a penny . For instance , 50-59 you need only to look for a 55 double die , 40-49 , maybe only steel and the famous 43/44 mistakes of copper / steel . The 30's , maybe only look at 1931 dates , unless any look uncirculated . This will eliminate many hours of separating each year . Then you can spend more time looking at the coins from 1909 - 1929 , which have many more rare dates possible .
