Killed an hour in the little ravine (city calls it a park) behind my house this afternoon while the wife was at the gym. Lot's of foil and aluminum cans. Did find a 1945D wheat, a Copper bullet slug, a button that I'm sure is fairly modern, and a whatzit. Any thoughts on the whatzit would be greatly appreciated. Still researching to find out what the whatzit is.
Lovin' the ACE 250 so far.

Looks like the Ace

is working like a charm, like the buttin thing, just not sure what it is!! Congrats!

Looks like a button to me. Nice way to kill an hour, congrats and thanks for sharing Neal. Cool!

The iron thing might be a cirular drain hole cover (man hole cover)?

Here's a picture of the Whatzit with a size reference. If the back weren't flat, I'd guess maybe a transom over a door or window.

About your whatsit...

Not sure what they are called, but it reminds me of the grates used to cover vents for a crawl space of an old house. I've seen them on houses in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Mostly on 19th and early 20th century houses. Typically oval and ornate cast iron...
