Got out for 3 hours to an 1920s school site. Dug up a ton of aluminum slaw... And a few coins. Out of those there were 6 wheaties... 1944, 45, 46, 48, 51 and 1925! AND a button stamped A.BENEDICT BEST DOUBLE GILT, measuring .78 in diameter. Any ideas on the age of the button?

Nice digs Joe..
The button is from around 1820 to 1850s.

Yes cool finds. I can find Benedict and coe but not just A. Benedict ? That double gilt held up well. Vino you have a link for this maker?

Just found this link... Button Back Marks
Under Waterbury Companies... 1812-29

Cool. It predates the school's construction (demolished in 2005) by about 100 years and could be from when the township was established.

Thanks Vino!
