where do I look?

I live in a town that was established in 1682, I have no idea where to look to find old bottles. What did people do with their trash in the 18th and 19th century? Was there usually centralized dump?

Yes & no

an Example would be My town.
Everyone Threw all their Trash in the Woods behind the Houses.
But a little later, I guess when the rat problem got Obvious,
everyone threw their trash in the woods
at the end of town.

and of course some went in the outhouse hole once it needed to be moved.

I have noticed a lot of old broken bottles along the delaware river where I detect at.
