where to 'buy' and dump?

Just had a quick question to see what everyone thought.

I want to start CRH soon and am trying to get the money for a box of halves. (Do you guys have better finds with boxes or just individual rolls?)

I am a member at a credit union and happen to live near both a regular branch and the union's hq. Where would I be better off 'buying' the coins and where should i dump? Without any knowledge or experience with CRH, logic is making me go back and forth between where I should go. Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you buy from Bank A, Dont dump at Bank A, even if its another branch of Bank A. You will just be putting your searched coins into their supply and dilute your pool.

Find out which bank has a coin counter, use them to dump would be your best bet. You might need to end up getting a second bank account. You could do this.

Get a new account, use that as your buy bank. Get one with a free checking or low minimum fee.

When you get your coins, dump at your credit union and deposit the cash, then pull out via ATM before you order your next box or write a check to the purchase bank.

I'd OREDER/BUY from the Credit Union you have an account with and dump at the Union HQ and the REGULAR BANK. Pay the fees if you need to. Better off, use one of those GREEN Coin star Machine at one of the grocery store. I know they charge, but THIS HOBBY will MAKE YOU RICH, and you won't have to worry about fees!!! I'm for real:laughing7::laughing7::headbang:
One thing, please Dig out some of the OLD posts, and read thru them, you'll find tons of info.
Good luck n HH

Ok ill go into some more detail. I have accounts at three banks. A is the credit union, B ia TD and C is citizens. A&B have free coin machines. The only citizens banks I know of are in supermarkets which makes me think that they probably wouldn't have 500 dollars of halves sitting around, possibly making this a better pickup bank. Or maybe I could pick up from two of and then drop at the third one. I just don't know if I should make the credit union (the one with the huge corporate office nearby) the pickup one or dropoff one. I would think that a bank as big as this one would have a ton of halves. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing though. If they have a lot and the good boxes are buried below all the other ones like I've heard then it would take forever to get to them. Any ideas? I appreciate the help

You're smart to draw on the experience on this forum as there is a ton of it. Getting your ducks in line while building your war chest should get you off to a good start.

I would advise you start out in the way that will be easiest for you as there are MANY variables such as region, what banks/CU's will allow, tellers' traits, the list is nearly endless.

At this point in your CRH'ing I would not be overly concerned with which institution to acquire/dump. OK, I KNOW THAT FLIES IN THE FACE OF ONE OF THE IRREFUTABLE TRUTHS ON THIS FORUM, SO LET THE ARROWS FLY MY WAY. BUT, I have diligently marked every one of my $2000/week halves (small potatoes to some on this forum) for six months and have never seen one a second time. Give some thought to marking your searches with a unique mark and then see if you get them back. If you do, change your strategy, going to one of separate dump/pick up institutions. IMO this lovable insanity is a little like combat; plans are great...until the first shot is fired. The best strategy on paper can suddenly come unraveled due to a bank/CU that doesn't want to play nice or a coin counter that jams resulting in upset tellers resulting in "you are no longer welcome here."

One of the best pieces of advice I've seen on this forum is talk with vault teller or manager early on at the institution(s) you'll be using. See what their ground rules are. Also, when you do get rolling, take the bank/CU employees that help you a treat every now and again. For me, bribery has worked wonders. I'm known as the "Sweet Guy." While my wife might cast a jaundiced eye on THAT title the lead teller at the CU I use has told me to let her know how many of whatever denomination I want and that it's OK to bring them back after I've searched them. The bank tellers I see each week now get the handcart loaded with new boxes when I roll through the door trailed by my wheeled suitcase full of dumps. The nicey-nice at each place might end if I increase my total coin volume to more than $3,000 per week but at this point everyone seems happy and that's the way I like it.

Long rambling post coming to an end with keep it simple in the beginning and adapt as process unfolds.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the help!

I'm gonna go buy a bunch of rolls at two different banks today. I would buy a box but I don't have the cash on me right now and I don't want to go straight to a box. I'll let everyone know how I do. Wish me luck!

GO FOR IT!!

Good luck.

I'll say it again. If you don't have anything constructive to say, please keep your troll thoughts to yourself. OP, the best way to start off in this forum is to put this wiseguy on ignore!!

What's the deal with you ? Get off my mini-me, u loop.
Seems like you the troll.

So I had an interesting day today. Went to the first bank asking for rolled halves and the teller kinda laughed at me and said no which I found a little rude but nothing I can do about it. Next time I'll see if they have halves in general. Second bank I asked for rolled halves and this time the teller was nicer about it. He said he didn't have any but then asked the other tellers and one of the tellers said she didn't have any rolled but she had a bag with $61.50 in it so I paid 60 to take the bag and check three while I was in the bank. Found a 90% (1964) and two 40% (1967,1968). Also found 14 bicentennials which was pretty exciting since I've only seen the quarters.

Congrats on your first finds. Once you get more into CRH, you'll find that bicentennials are a dime a dozen. Just keep an eye out for the "S" mintmark.

At the first bank I would guess there is probably a regular hunter who picks up there. I've ran into that before where the teller kind of chuckles and you can tell you're probably not the first person to ask for halves.

Good luck & HH

Are the s mint marks just on bicentennials or all halves? What are they worth? I'm thinking of keeping a roll of bicentennials just for the novelty of it. Can I get empty rolls at the bank?

You should have seen my face in the bank when I saw the guy counting them. I saw the different backs of the bicentennials thinking that was the back for the franklins or something since I haven't seen one but quickly realized that it was just dissapointment. Oh well. Still did good for 60 bucks!

Look at the post totals and the time as a member wiseguy! The only reason I reply to your posts is because you keep giving people bad advice, or is it you think you're funny? Here's a hint: you're not funny. You give the forum a bad rep!
