Where to metal detect in upstate new york?

Im new - I dont even own a metal detector yet, but am trying to find out if theres any decent places to use it before making the investment.
Are there any good public access places? What about Sylvan beach on Oneida Lake?? I dont have a clue. Someone point me the right way

Hi, There are many places to detect in nys. Check with local authorities for permission for town parks and schools. I'm southwest of you near Jamestown and we have 3 NYS parks close by. You need to purchase a metal detecting permit for those areas but it is well worth it. There are many areas that are possibilities, just use your imagination.
