Detector(s) used
CZ-21, Nox 800
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I am a starving student who wants to delve into metal detecting/treasure seeking. I need advice though, because of my confusion. I am looking at several models of Garrett Metal detectors and am, so far, unable to gauge strengths and weaknesses among the models, keeping a scant budget in mind.

Given the choice between the Garrett Treasure Ace 300, the Garrett Master Hunter 5 ADS, the Garrett Ultra 500, and Garrett Ultra GTA 350, which would be the best value for my money? I am wanting to search for small gold nuggets (ie aid with panning) and coins.

I don't want to spend too much to begin with. All of these Garretts I am looking at are used. I thank anybody with advice, in advance.

I'm not real familiar with all of those detectors, but probably the ADS 5 would come closest to the gold capabilities of the lot. I would think you would be better off with a used Tesoro Eldorado Umax ($375 new all over the net) for a budget coin and gold machine. Just my thoughts, Cal

:I had a Garrettcx2 a few years ago-It was a great machine;I dont know about any of the machines you are looking at,but if they are as good as the cx2 I had, any of those would be a good choice.

Thanks for advice Steve, Wuduce, and Cal. This is a great forum! So many people are willing to impart their knowledge. I decided to purchase the Tesoro Eldorado new, after much research.

dbsmoky,
I would consider the Garrett Gold Scorpion Stinger.

It can be used for gold hunting and switched over to hunt for coins.
It has both manual ground balance as well as automatic.
It is a very versatile detector.

I have both, the Garrett and the Tesoro El Dorado, the Garrett is a
better detector and you can find it discounted for $440.

Good Luck.
