Detector(s) used
Tesoro Tiger shark.
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
After about 2 months of using the my new Silver Umax I bought upgrading from my compadre, and finding nice gold ring with it. I have decided to sell one of the detectors, I'm just not sure which one.

I recently bought a Tesoro Tiger shark, And so far I love it, works great on Land and in the water, It also seems to have better Depth than the other 2 detectors especially in the water (duh).

Any event I don't need 3 detectors and the Tiger shark seems to pretty much do every thing the other 2 can and then some, Unless I'm missing something here.

I'm Leaning on keeping the compadre and selling the new silver Umax, Mainly because my 2nd detector will be that loner detector when someone/Girlfriend/ect tags along with me. I feel the smaller coil and the 1 knob is easier for newbies to learn. Its also easier to pinpoint with than the silver umax
And if I ever get into that trashy areas the smaller coil of the Compdre will come in handy, where the Silver Umax has same size coil as my Tiger shark. 8" I think.

Any event thats my thoughts, which one would you guys keep and why?

Thanks for your
Time.

I own 2 detectors the Silver uMax and the Tiger. Sell the Compadre. The silver is deeper than the compadre.

I agree with rainyday, keep the Silver.

Also, I think that the sensitivity knob is pretty self explanatory, so I wouldn't expect the Silver uMax to be any harder for a friend to learn.

I would consider keeping both, selling either one may not bring in the money you might expect, and if you were to sell the compadre and later down the road missed the 5.75 coil the difference in price for a new coil and the compadre is only 50 bucks.

I only got $450 for 4 month old vaquero with 2 extra coils, carry case and finds pouch. A compadre may not bring $75

keep the silver!

I'll buy the silver for $100.:laughing7:

I agree the Silver has better depth, but the bigger coil on it is a pain to pinpoint. Especially for newbies using it as a loner. The compadre with the smaller coil is much easier to deal with as a loner machine for finding the goods and not leaving that pot hole in the park like newbies do.

Give yeah example.
I took my new tiger shark out to this park that has trails in the woods, and has a foot bridge that crosses a creek. I thought this would be a hot spot for coins being thrown off the bridge. Any way I invited this kid (20-23 years old I'm guessing) from work to come alone he never been MDing before and wanted to try it.

So when we got there I gave him my Compadre to use instead of my Silver, because I thought it would be easier to pinpoint for him, but also I din't want my Silver toasted should he fall off the bank into the creek.
Any event while I was in the water under the bridge digging up 1970 beer cans a foot deep in the sandy bottom of the creek. He was on bank and the trail near the bridge finding all kinds of coins with the compadre with little to no trouble finding them when digging ether.

He even got real excited when he found this watch because he thought it was old and gold, (its not) but still looked cool and got him all into this MD stuff. coolwatch.webp

In a few weeks I'm going to auction off one of the detectors on online auction (not ebay), not sure which MD yet. If your interested you can PM me and I will send you the AH link once I get it listed, be few weeks to month yet though.

P.S any know where I can get a coil cover for 8" tiger shark coil? and does it stay on in the water?

The only one I could find was from Kellyco that was an ugly brown against the white coil. Also it would fall off easily. I put 2 small dabs of silicone that I could still pull apart to clean sand out every once in a while. I've heard of people sealing them up completely with silicone, but I'm not sure how long that would hold a good seal and you may wind up with a cover you could not remove without damaging coil. Good luck!

I have no problem pin pointing with the Silver uMax. I have gotten so good at it that I only cut my plugs 2-4 inches wide and the pinpointer finds the target centered in that hole most of the time. The Silver, despite the slightly larger coil size should pin point just as well as the Compadre. If the Silver had a pin point button I would not even waste my time using it. If your friend would have used the Silver would the results have been any different? My guess is no.

Sell the compadre to me!

yep sell it unless you have kids that want to start detecting

I decided to sell the Silver Umax, I will post the link here, once it gets listed. For those that want to bid on it.
