My guess is a trade token. Used for transactions in a store.
 

Maybe, it was in the yard at a 1811 built house, lots of old rail road spikes, a really old lock and a pocket watch were also found. Even a C R Tax Paid metal tag with 1870 on it. Not sure what C R is.
It looks like English and another language mixed together. I can see "No.3" and a Z or two but the rest are something else. Thanks.

Interesting, that has not crossed my mind. I did find two old lamp burners near this area. I will check them to see if they are missing there knobs. I would think it is a little to thick to be one, but possible.

I believe he nailed it.
The lettering is, No.3 Dietz .... Dietz make oil lamps.
I thought I had found a coin from a lost colony! Lol.
