White's blue box battery system

Does anyone have any experience, or thoughts, about converting the old 14 AA battery setup on the 6000 series 2 to something more modern ? Just curious thanks in advance.

I have just gone to Radio Shack and gotten a 6 & 8 AA cell holder. Used some 2500 mah nimh or higher value AA cells. Have a "smart" charger that can charge either pack. Works great, and have a lot longer life.

You can also go to a place like Batteries Plus or Interstate and they can build a pack for you.
