I recently picked up a Whites Coinmaster 2/D at a Goodwill , in its original(?)hard shell case. The detector is in great shape, no corrosion inside, everything looks seldom used.I put some new batteries, looked up the manual on the Whites website(I found out it was made in 1974) , figured out what went where, and hit the yard, I found a couple of pennies and some can slaw, so I know it works. My question is: What should I expect from this machine?
(I mean besides a sore swingin' arm, this suckers heavy!), How deep should it be able to penetrate in Florida soil? On the side of the housing it says "mineral and metal" dectector, would this work well for gold and silver, better than my trusty ACE 250? Will it work in wet sand any better? I find that , ergononically at least, it wears me out pretty quickly, having no armrest.I didn't realize how much an armrest helps !
It seems like a good machine, certainly more difficult to use than the newer models with the LCD's and such, but functional.Should I keep it, or donate it to the Smithsonian ?
