White's Metal Detector
A White's Model 63 TR, $20. It's a pretty basic model, but it sure beats no MD at all. After getting there I expected to find a sluice, but there wasn't one.
But I would've traded it just to hear the owner's stories--just from looking through the items you could tell he'd lived an amazing life: Pilot and aircraft builder, big game hunter, fisherman, photographer and projectionist, mechanic, carpenter, veteran, and so on. There were also about 60 soft-sided rifle cases; his great nephew said he had one of the most complete Colt collections in the US (none of which I could've afforded even IF they'd been for sale
).
I wish I'd known him.
