Whites Prizm IV 9.5 search coil?

I currently have the basic stock Prizm IV and am having trouble hitting on any targets deeper than a couple inches. I was looking into buying the 9.5 search coil and was wondering if yall had any advice? Also i do not wear headphones is that also hurting my depth?

I'm brand spankin new to the hobby but have the same machine with the 9.5 inch coil. I'm pulling nickels out at 6-8 inches from my yard. I love it.
