Well guys, it's been a great four-day weekend for me, even though at times it was pretty hectic. I feel lucky to have been able to get out a couple times, once on Friday and once today. I'm sorry I couldn't make it out yesterday with you guys on your group hunt. Tim was sending me messages and I really wanted to go but we're deep in the trenches looking for a house and my real estate agent (my sister) was available only Saturday, so we spent all morning and early afternoon driving around and looking at houses.
I kept my fingers crossed that it wasn't going to rain today, and woke up to a dreary landscape. I drove over to a spot I went to a few weeks ago in hopes of a few more Rosies and/or mercs. The sky looked like it was going to let loose at any moment so I stayed pretty close to the car. I began by picking up a couple of wheaties and then dug a ring marked ESPO STERLING. Seems Esposito Jewelry Co. was a costume jewelry maker that began in 1951, according to my limited research. Then I dug a little religious pendant. I thought it was silver but it's only plated copper.
Mikewaz showed up not long after and we decided to take a chance and head away from our cars in spite of the fact that rain seemed emminent. A long period of mostly silence was abruptly shattered when I got a nice high tone. The M6 was telling me half/quarter at 5 inches. Ehh, I know what that means. A bouncing half/quarter signal usually means a big peice of copper pipe or a can top or some other peice of junk. Still, I liked the way the target pinpointed so tightly. I dug a plug and scanned the plug, nada. Scanned the hole, bam! Solid quarter. A little bit of digging and, oh yes, there it is, a sight to behold- a reeded edge of a silver quarter. However, I did NOT expect what I got...it's been a while! Not nearly as nice as Mark's, but gorgeous nonetheless.
About three feet away, I got a penny signal at about 7 inches and dug a wheatie. Scanned the hole again, got another wheatie. Scanned the hole again, nothing. I put the dirt back and stomp on the plug, and re-scanned for good measure. Nothing. I began gridding the immediate area but found nothing else. As I began to swing my way to another area, the coil caught a high tone off to the side. I turned around and scanned the ground, and got another lower penny signal- in the exact same spot I found those two wheaties! What the..? So I redug the hole and found a pretty nice 1883 IH.
After that, nothing else but some more wheaties. I picked up a few other relics and a little embossed "Miracle Oil" bottle. The rain began to pick up and I was pretty beat anyway so Mike and I took off.
My apologies again for not being able to make the group hunt, I really hope to get together with a lot of you guys soon. Have a good week!
