Why do people throw their garbage out the window instead of taking it home to get rid of it?

Big peave of mine! I hate it when I see these things and I've never seen anybody pulled over and ticketed for littering !

Oh, a big pet peeve to me as well! Reminds me of a time driving on the L.I.E. back in '78. My g/f threw a Reese's PB Cup wrapper out the window. I stopped and made her pick it up! That is NO BS!!! However, there was hardly any traffic....and for the L.I.E., that's pretty amazing! I rather the floor board of my car be cluttered with wrappers than the roadside!

I remember that commerical with the Indian! :'( You just don't see commericals like that anymore!

littler bugs suck...and i will tell them so while i call the police.
really huge pet peeve here.

someone had the nerve to post this photo...while defending "friends who found the lost dutchman"
disgusting...talk about an instant case of non stop profanity...
this is inside the wilderness area.

Unfortunate that people do this, we have had public parking area`s blocked off due to lazy people dumping their garbage instead of taking it to the dump. I still carry a small garbage bag with me into the woods to carry junk back out.

We travel all over the country & see it everywhere, but it seems especially bad here in certain areas of southern Alabama, I have yet to see an "Adopt A Road" sign around here!

Alot of times it's not stupidity (they KNOW they're not supposed to litter) or laziness, but attitude.

Jerks do it because they know the 'system' doesn't want them to, therefore they are showing power over same by doing it. Everyone's encountered this type of personality.

Teens may do it for similar reasons and also because they know it bugs 'old' people (same reason for graffiti). Plus the bonus of being cool around friends.

Not much you can do about it, except pick it up yourselves when you see it, if possible.

On the 2 mile loop we walk a couple times a day where these pictures were taken, I think we'd need a 10 yard dumpster.

The only good thing is that we can pick up the aluminum cans and I can save all of the pulltabs for the Ronald McDonald House! We can give the cans to our RV Park, they save them for "coffee money" in the common room.

I could quote just about all the replies. Makes my blood boil. Just like when I see people throw their cig butts out the window when they have a ashtray in the car??????

Was hosting some Chinese engineers at work one year as they were ramping up a facility in their country. One of them needed to see someone local and while driving him there, he turns to me and said, "You know what I love about America?"
Too late, I asked. "What?"
He responded, "This!" and threw his empty soda can out the window.
Stopped and let him join me in picking up some trash, pointing out that what I love about America is we don't need a permit to take initiative.

Hey - is that my bucket? ;D ;D

Seriously, I get so sick of seeing garbage left behind - anywhere - the road, camping sites etc.

I really don't know what is so hard about picking up after yourself - and maybe picking up after a few others. If we all did that, we wouldn't be seeing so much junk.

I don't know about lazy - it takes a little effort to open your window and let it fly. I think alot of people do it on purpose, so they make the extra effort to throw it out the window.

I knew one guy - I used to harp at him all the time - he was absolutely a cleaning nut. Everything in a certain place. From his person to every little corner in his home. But darned if he didn't throw stuff out the window - all the time. His answer was: throw it now, or clean it out later.

Geesh -

Some people are just SICK!!! This is what greeted me one afternoon on my road, the sickos had the nerve to dump all this, I sorted through it till I found names...called the individual, and come to find out the rental unit she rented was broken into and what the sickos did not want they dumped. Most of the stuff was a collection of her late husband, Anyway, several months later these sickos were caught, seems they broke into too many storage units.

 RR

When the old song , (You've got to pitch in to clean up America) was around, I was singing it while I threw a can out the window, i looked over at my two little boys & thought (what an example) for them.
Now my little boys are 32 & almost 31, & I have taught them to not litter, & I haven't since that day.
i will pick up trash whenever possible, & 'pack it out'.

Being a smoker, I don't even do that....I use that gadget that was installed in my car called an ashtray...it may overflow over time...LOL...but I have heard so many stories about folks throwing cigs out car windows and fires being started...

What gets me too...at work...we have a BUTT CAN and my fellow smoking employee friends still, STILL, throw their butts in the street, lit!!!! (or I should say, parking lot, either way, not right)...UGH.... >:(

You did good!!! I won't tell someone to do something or expect them to do it without doing it myself!!! Kudos to you

i lived in Michigan, outside detroit for a year and all the parks were littered with beer cans and pultabs and beer caps and broken bottles. It was disgusting. The parking lots in the were literally rocks and with so many broken glass bits that it looked like a weird rainbow on the ground.

Judie I am sooo glad those punks got caught!

Lowbatts cudos .... What diplomatic immunity does not register with you ;D

Fossis sometimes it takes just seeing whos watching you to make a change. I had slacked off in some areas of my life when my daughter grew up and got married and left the house but with the grandbabies watching every move I have done a complete turn around.

I hate litter bugs and the grandkids see trash when were out they on there own go pick it up.

And cig butts we live in an area that gets put under red flag alot so when I still smoked I was careful to not throw them out the window.
