Here is some more info

Father, Andrew Mattei came to Fresno County in 1890, settling near Fowler. He was a grape grower who made wine and brandy. He bought much real estate and built the Mattei Building in 1921. This became the Fresno Guarantee Savings Building in 1961.
In the account of the Chrysanthemum Fete put on by the St. James' Women at the Parlor Lecture Club on Nov. 3, 1911, mention is made of one feature of the entertainment, "A German song given by Miss Anne Mattei".
The original Helm organ was rebuilt in 1928 when the church's organ chamber was enlarged. More additions were made in 1945 when Anne Mattei Andersen and Teodolinda Mattei Gleason donated a new console to the church in memory of their parents, Andrew and Elanor Mattei. Anne Mattei Andersen was active for years in the Women's Guilds of the church.

Can you post a picture of the bottom end of the bottle? During Prohibition, many wineries went out of business in California because they could not sell wine to the general public. Some wineries remained in business, however, if they had contracts to make wine for the Catholic Church. Often it was the Italian winemakers who would receive those contracts because they were generally Catholics themselves. The bottom of your bottle might give further information as to when the bottle was made, which glass company made it, etc.

In 1921 a multi-story building was completed in downtown Fresno....the name of the building: The Mattei Building. Wonder what the connection could be to the winemaker????

On the bottom of the bottle its says WINE and last night I found out about the same thing you did, I think this bottle might be from that time but am not sure right now, My girlfriend works in the wine industry so she is doing some checking on it

Well, there should be some numerals or letters or other marks that would indicate the glass manufacturing company. "WINE" would merely indicate that it was a bottle made for the wine industry. A generic wine bottle. The "kick" or "punt" or pontil on the bottom will indicate age, also. You can probably go to an antique dealer in your area and learn the age from him/her or they would probably have a bottle book that will help you determine the age of the bottle. As far as the winery itself, that would probably be best investigated through the Fresno County Historical Society. Good Luck.

I'll look again but that is all I found I know on the front bottom it states Fresno CA but other then that I cant find anything else on it but I will look again

Yeah, there's probably something else on the bottom, but it may not seem significant.

So what kind of rock hunter are you? Are you a rockhound? I like all kinds of "treasure" including rocks. What type of stuff have you collected? I"ve been to Patterson to collect the fossils. I've been to Trinity County to get a chunk of marble. I've gone to Utah to find a few things that I have subsequently lost. LOL I've gone to Moonstone Beach in Humboldt County and picked up a couple of moonstones. And I've gone to lots of other places that would probably be too boring to list.

I generally look for Artifacts, Indian stuff surface hunting, Taking some Arc classes, been on a couple of published digs etc. Been doing this all my life but a couple of years ago I was turned on to some old R/R camps sites and found some cool old stuff, Date nails railroad stuff, My girlfriend bought me a metal detector MXT last year so I've been playing around with that as well, haven't found anything cool yet with it, Just haven't figured the thing out yet. Bottles have really not been my thing but once in a while I do come across them I think they are pretty cool the older ones. My girlfriends parents have a ranch a big one, Lots of history there so old dump sites are common up there, Fossils are also stuff I look for and Geo's but haven't had much success in that area yet, I need to do some reading on it. I've been all over Northern CA and Parts of NV, I have some good rancher friends that let me look for stuff out there, OR is a good place as well but do it on private land!
I like old stuff and sometimes I wish I was on the east coast they find some pretty cool stuff out there Civil war stuff always catches my eye,
But I know there is stuff out here as well
