Drill a 1/4 inch hole though both shafts and insert a stainless 1/4" bolt with a lock nut. A crude repair but it'll keep the shaft from flopping around. ;D
 

better if you can find a plastic screw or bolt.
 

Most detector companys offer this a spare or replacement part and many of the large dealers will carry them. I broke one on a Fisher once, called the factory and they sent me one for free! Most of the companies a toll free phone number so give them a try? Make sure you have model # handy as some are different sizes or clamp shapes.
