Wow, pretty historic...Americans in Cuba!?

I would not do it. Nice place for a vacation, but leave the detector at home, unless you get in writing from the consulate that it is OK (something to show the police or customs officers). I tried a few years ago from Canada and was unsuccessful. I don't think much has changed yet.

I have heard about Europeans detecting in Cuba, nothing special at all over there.

...just fly thru canadia.

Never needed anything from that island, still don't need it!

It was where the headquarters of the Knights of the Golden Circle was located at one time. I am sure that there is more there than we have heard about. I would love to go take a look.

My two cents. For us Canadians, it has been an inexpensive place to vacation with lots of culture, fine resorts and fun in the sun. They love tourists. However, if you are planning to visit, in my humble opinion, I would leave the detector at home - - unless you get prior written permission that it is OK from the embassy or consulate. Alternatively, stay somewhere with a big beach and get prior permission from the resort (and stay there). This might keep you out of a Cuban police station or save your equipment from being taken.

I would love to go but NOT until the family is removed from power. They take everything from the people and give nothing in return. Communism is prehistoric. I have heard many sad stories from friends that managed to get off the island.
