Dang I glad u said that. I put wrong # it has 8699. I have a gun with 1947 on it sorry been a long day. Your right that seems to be the biggest issue I have.
 

No problem,keep searching buddy.I have seen scopes like yours on carcanos.WW2 Italian snipers actions,I believe,were pretty rarely documented.WW1 Italy were allies,hence the french scopes.One thing seems to me though,only an idiot would use a shiny bare metal scope for sniping.Yours isnt the only one Ive seen that was bare metal,and it wasnt the paint or whatever wearing off.:laughing9:
 

On enlarging the photo, it does seem to have marks, as though someone had shined it up. Maybe the painting technique wasnt so good then.
