Hi guys , the field I'm currently detecting had a WW2 search light on it, I found this today.... it's hallmarked and I think had blue enamel.

Can anyone I.D the hallmarks?

Thanks 20200920_143546.webp20200920_143628.webp20200920_143604.webp

frontal design to hold enamel inlay and clasp device looks more 1910-ish period to me. Worn as a symbol of luck. You need to clean up the hall marks better for a proper ID, but it's not WW2

Can you recommend how to clean the hallmarks up?

Nice save. This piece brought you luck it seems.

Birmingham 1911 [emoji106] thanks for info, it put me on the right track.

Indeedy, yes. The maker is Adie & Lovekin Ltd of Frederick Street, Birmingham, England.

Although they were registered in 1879 (so the lower case ‘m', the style of which isn’t very clear in your picture, could theoretically be for 1886 rather than 1911) the anchor is upright, which means the later date. Also A&L used a variety of marks, but that particular one was only in use between 1894-1927:

RIC Civil war
That is a RARE coin in amazing condition! (has some good value)
RIC 4Civil war denarius, Spain, April-June 68. BON EVENT Female head right, wearing fillet in hair / PACI PR Clasping hands, holding caduceus. BMC 4. RIC 4.
Hi Crusader, it's almost like it was dropped yesterday. Do you have a date for this? I couldn't find the coin on line , I clicked your link and read the description but am I missing the date?

I voted BANNER.

This is what Cru'dad states after checking RIC (book):

''Civil war denarius, Spain, April-June 68. BON EVENT Female head right, wearing fillet in hair / PACI PR Clasping hands, holding caduceus. BMC 4. RIC 4.
https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/Civil_Wars/t.html

In RIC Vol I 1984 edition this RIC 4 designated coin was classed R4 which meant up to 5 coins were known at that date.''

Hard to value, as I can't find any for sale or any that sold.
I would not be surprised if its in the £500-£1000 bracket. (Most denarius not worth more than £30)
If sold in the US, I suspect it would command at least $1200.

So only 5 are known to exist? No way!! TBH I'm not interested in the money, the find is part of the journey. You have made my year [emoji16]

No, at the time of publishing the book in 1984. A few more will have been found since then, anyone's guess, maybe 20 or so....

Repost some better pictures of the coin at the top post before it freezes you out tomorrow.

Congrats Steve! Rare coin in beautiful condition. You have my vote too.

Great find!

Now I am inspired. Adjusted for inflation a $5,000 coin! Almost 2,000 years old to boot. I would probably have it graded and slabbed. Is this a UK found coin?
