After years of searching, I finally found the location of a campsite that was in use during the Second World War. I found eight wheat pennies, seven of which were around one tree, many shells, and pull tabs galore.
Yesterday I was out and not getting much luck until I hit a dime signal.. Expecting a clad dime, I dug and retrieved the coin. At first glance it appeared to be a modern Rosie because of the shine to it but then I saw that it had lady liberty posing right on the front. I had found a mercury dime!! My very first one too. My jaw dropped wide open and I grabbed my hat then threw it right in the air! Nothing could bring me down from that rush of excitement and I will be back to hunt that location hard. Hopefully with my buddy, Lefty. HH!

First Merc, and it's an older one! Congrats Mobius, I look forward to seeing the other treasures this site holds. This just might be the tip of the iceberg.

Congrats on the first!

Just found my 1st merc 2 weeks ago... very nice find.

Great shape also. !!

Should be some interesting finds there .

That first merc is a great feeling! Congrats

That's cool L.A. has an old history going all the way back to when California was part of Mexico so your potential for real old coins is good as long as it's not paved over. Happy hunting in SoCal.

Congrats on your first merc. good detail!

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Nice going on the Merc, I can't wait to find one of those. A pile of wheats too. What a day.

Congrats on your first merc...

UPDATE: went out for about three hours in the same location and came out with two keepers. One 1918 buffalo nickel and a military pin. This pin is for expert infantrymen and it dates back as far as the 1930's! It was a really cool find and that buffalo was the first one where I could actually get a date off of.
