Yesterday morn's junk and then this morning two nice finds .

! Yesterday morning I decided to go back to the gold watch spot and dig everything hoping beyond hope that the watch chain was still in the vicinity. No luck just a bunch of junk signals . With the only interesting item showing up was the small advertising placard . Call Craigies for service phone 22 Westbrook Me. Phone # 22 could not have been very long after the phone got established here . Today I went to a different area and managed to hit one decent pocket of old. I picked up on the big cast iron lock about a foot down and after clearing this signal I probed the hole for glass and hit the Pottery Ink bottle 6 inches below the lock . It came out in one piece and in lovely shape ! My second pottery bottle this year ! :headbang: There are no markings on the bottle unless you count the two dash marks on the bottom but I can find nothing to indicate it is a makers mark. Circa 1850 to 1870 A little ways from this I hit the big broad axe. It was time to leave and I was sorry I had to leave this spot but It gives me a good starting point on my next hunt there . As I was meaandering my way out I spotted the Knife in the case just sitting on a fallen tree log begging me to find it . Perhaps he stoped to do his bussiness and set it on the fallen tree and left it behind . I have an insituation pic of the knife and will post it once I process the pics on my Iphone . The Knife Is a 1940 to 1964 vintage Case stag handled fixed blade hunting knife with a blood grove . Thanks for looking and happy hunting ! MaineRelic :hello2:

Hey MaineR,

Nice finds, sir. That form of stoneware is actually a British blacking bottle, and spanned a period from the late 18th Century, right up almost to the 20Th.
