Yesterday's 10 Hour+ Civil War Relic Hunt
Arrived on a battlefield on private property here in Virginia @ 8:15 am yesterday and left @6:35 pm. Except for a couple of water breaks and a 15 minute lunch, I hunted non-stop. The hunting was a little tougher this year - the ground was dry and packed. And I had a lot of cornstalks/stubs to contend with. But I was happy. I started out with the AT Pro because it was raining a little bit and I found about 1/3 of what you see here with that unit. But it was falsing some on me for some reason and it began to really hurt my arm. (I gotta bad right elbow). Then I switched to the T2SE - light as a feather! I can swing that machine all day. I found everything else with the T2. I found several Confederate Gardners, 3 ringers, and an Enfield and some other bullets I've yet to identify. I also found part of a Hotchkiss sabot, melted/camp lead, 2 period rivets and some odd brass pieces. The piece on the bottom left, I think, is part of a brass spur. The curvature, thickness, etc appears to be about right. Also, I found an iron buckle piece or hanger of some type. The heart shaped piece is either a carved bullet or just misshapen from impact - not sure. The strangest item I found was a girl's high school ring (not pictured) dating from the 1930's - 1940's. No ID on it, but I've got a hunch who it may belong to and will attempt to return it if that hunch proves right.
I also got a lot of good video of live digs and recoveries. I'll be putting that together when I get back from South Carolina next week. I hope to do some beach hunting while away. Thanks for takin' a look!
