Yesterday's auction 'find'! Amazing what $5 can get you. (Jewelry)

Look at this baby! Any thoughts as to the age? Acid tested an inconspicuous area. It's unmarked sterling and heavy as all get out. Ring is about 1.5" long, and doesn't even fit on my thumb. (I have huge knuckles too!) Amethysts appear natural to my untrained eye. How about them CZ's?!? Is this thing worth taking to a jeweler for a once-over?

Thanks for looking!

I love reading all your posts, so thanks for reading mine!

Very nice, large rings look to be in style again

Maybe if you go by a jeweler on the way some where it could't hurt. If the jeweler tries to charge you then you may want to rethink the expense. Good luck!

Odds of the stones being diamonds, miniscule. Finding a great ring: PRICELESS!

If you have a blacklight see if the "diamonds" fluoresce (blue, and/or yellow, or other colors). If they do, then definitely have it checked out by a jeweler using a thermal device, they won't charge you. If they don't fluoresce then I wouldn't bother checking on them. If you don't have a blacklight take it in for the check, it won't cost you and then you'll be sure before you sell it. Having said that, you and I know there's almost no chance they are real. You just don't find diamonds mounted on sterling, except sometimes tiny studs.

if you already sell online, you're probably very familiar with ebay. I suggest Etsy.com not ebay, you'll do better. Use ebay to get an idea how to price it. Then try for double that on etsy. You can put it on sale if it doesn't sell at the higher price.

Don't mistake reflection of the blacklight for fluorescence, fluorescence will be a different color from the blacklight and it will glow.

In Europe years ago, ladies would use a ring like this to keep a silk neck scarf in place. Given the size I am wondering if this might be a similar item?

Interesting thought!! Can anyone expand on this? Hoping to take it to the jewelers tomorrow or day after. Don't have a blacklight, so can't test it that way...

Thanks for all the nice replies.
