Yesterdays hunt with Dirt Fishin' Wolf
Hey everyone. Headed waaay out into the far 'burbs yesterday morning for a little coil swingin' w/ DFW @ his new hot spot. Day started off slowly, as I ended up being about 3 hrs behind schedule due to car problems. While Rich was finding himself a whole tribe of indians, all I was digging was junk
, and I was having a hard time getting any good signals at all. About 2 hrs in, I decided to call it quits and began swinging my way back towards my car, disappointed that such a promising spot hadn't been kind to me. 5 minutes later, I get a solid nickel hit near a large weed. "Oh great" I think to myself, "more trash or a clad Jefferson"...decided to dig anyway....and after a few seconds....POOF!! What should appear but a 1907 V nickel!!
. This one is a little worn, but still in fairly decent shape. It's also the oldest coin I've dug md'ing to date...
. I also found a large spoon, too bad most of the silver plating has worn off. Totals for the day included the silver plated spoon, the 1907 V nickel, 3 wheaties '14, '45d, '53d, and a TON of trash and slag. Still, I'm looking forward to going back...Thanks to DFW for allowing me to hunt with him @ his new site. Thoughts and observations on yesterdays hunt: private property is more fun to hunt than fp's or city parks, and (imho) more productive. All the coins DFW and I found were shallow (2-4 inches) and easy to dig. Pics below. Enjoy!!
