✅ SOLVED Yet anthor iron relic has me stumped!

This iron relic measures 5 inches by 5 1/4 inches. It must have been some sort of tool or attachment for something, but I have no idea. Looks like the ball part was crimped onto the wire and probably moved back and forth at one time. Any guesses would be appreciated.

It looks like part of a horse bit. Modern example (the part thru the mouth comes in hundreds of configurations over the years):
