Since they'd recently reaped the harvest in a field I have permission for, I thought I'd try a refresher
course in corn stubble swinging. It didn't take me very long to remember just how difficult this can be!! :(

I just kept tripping and stumbling my way around for about 4 hours.

The area is absolutely rich with history, but, I didn't walk over top much of it today.

Here's the take:

Then there was this thing.

See that edge underneath? That's a regular nickle to
show the size. The piece is non-magnetic.

Front, back, sideways doesn't help.
I've done nothing to it yet. For all I know,
it's a play coin.

I thought I'd let you guys make a guess while I clean.
I'll update when/if I know anything. I am really NOT
expecting anything.

But, you guys who walk the farm fields regularly, you have my utmost respect!

I tried it and haven't completely given up on it yet.
I gotta say, though, I really didn't enjoy this hunt. It was
too much like going to work!

I think I'll leave the farm for the "professionals". ;)

Even Blingie & Fishy are a bit perturbed today. ;)

Thanks for peeking!

There is no better place to walk, relic hunting all the way.:headbang:

I'm with you on the corn stubble, bean fields are much nicer. That corn field might be a bean field next year

Is the piece farthest left part of an old buckle, ya think? Bullets are probably the most prevalent find I make in my fields too. Coins are very rare, but when they do appear, they're usually close to a couple centuries old, so I put up with the stumbling, bumbling and falsing from bumping, lol. My next couple days after today will be spent there with the good Lord willing.

Well, I am very glad for you and wish you all the luck in the world! You can have my share. ;)

My thought on that piece was exactly that, a piece of an old buckle. :dontknow:

By the by, anyone who bet on that coin being a completely burnt zincoln, you win! LOL

You are so right about corn stubble,it's a complete PITA to hunt yet so very peaceful sometimes. And then there's snakes.

And....just one more reason.....I rest my case.

Zincoln..? darn I was hoping 1800's token. Yes as far as corn fields go I actually like to detect just before they pick while it is still standing, as long as the rows are nice and clean and stalks are not knocked over every where preventing one from walking. After they pick you have several extra inches of shucks to contend with laying about. One good thing about corn rows stubble or unpicked stalks is that's if you just swing in between the rows it forces you to only do short tight passes, which is a good thing. I believe that is what helped me to find that seated half just a few days ago, short tight swings.

Yes my Sunday hunt was at a old home site that was a cornfield. Was very hard to do any good swinging which is very important on the E-Trac to get good target IDs. Got one copper penny and the site was super trashy also. With copper or brass roofing scattered about on top of aluminum can remains, this just might be a good site after enough trash cleanup is done but before that can happen we need some good weather and time to hunt(just got robbed of one hours worth of daylight also).

did my share of corn fields too and they are tough....but give me a nice bean field

I know what you're talking about...but the fields is where the treasure is. Just wait till the corn field turns into a better to hunt field, finds will be still there next year! :occasion14:

Snakes? At least we don't have Rattlers out here !

I'm with you on the corn stubble..it's a helluva workout. As long as the shucks are out of the way the stubble makes for great grinding lines especially if your in an iron patch

Looks like you did all right to me. That's a nice bunch of cool finds.

I have permission to hunt two huge farms and many fields that I haven't even begun yet.

Congrats.
