You know it's gonna be a GREAT day when....
...your first hole is silver!! Found a '45p war nickel in my first hole yesterday!! I headed back out to a spot in the city that I thought I had hunted out last year. Took some very good advice from Pocket Spill, and decided to swing slooooowly, and keep my coil right on the grass. Took my time all day and it paid off big time!!
Totals for yesterday: 3 silver coins ('45p war nickel, 2 mercs ('43, '44) ), 15 wheaties (dates are teens-'40s; not pictured); 1 indian (1900); MY FIRST EVER LARGE CENT!!!!!!!!! It's an 1837. Also dug a few pieces of costume/junk jewelry (per a friend, one might be a small hair barette), a 1927 Chicago dog license (my oldest dog license found to date!!
), and $2.78 in clad (not pictured; included a whopping 15 Jefferson nickels, one of which was a 1941).
So, as you can see folks, often times places aren't "hunted out"; you just need a little luck, a lot of patience, and nice weather!! It also helps to hunt in the spring when the grass hasn't grown in yet (long grass can prevent you from putting your coil right on the surface, and you will inevitably miss signals if this happens. Don't worry, there's nothing anyone can do about it. Just hunt these areas when the grass is as short as possible, and remember to swing low and slow, and TAKE YOUR TIME!!! It's not a race).
Pics are below. Enjoy!!
