your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I didn't vote because none Say what I think.? ;)? In My opinion, I like them better then Clad, but the only other thing I like about them these days are that they tell me I'm in an area old enough for silver

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I like finding them in change so far this year I have found for wheats and one silver dime. I have found three wheats in the past mding. Yesterday I found 33 pennys but no wheats...

I found a 39-S today in VF condition after I washed it off. Found a 1935 quarter next to it. They do help to date the area, but I tend to keep everything I dig anyway. I feel that finding wheaties is better than finding clad but BRING ON THE GOLD! Spotz

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I look at it like Jeff, when I find a wheatie I know the older coins are there. :)

Where theres smoke theres fire...where theres wheatbacks theres silver...most of the time...HH

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

Actually I'd say ALL THE TIME .? ;) It's just a matter of finding them? :D and YES I have hit spots where I got Wheats, But No Silver. BUT I'd still wager they are there

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I've been at this one week or so.? I've found 2 wheats and no silver.? I think that perhaps the reason why I'm finding wheats and no silver is because they are still in circulation somewhat.? What I mean is that I get them in change every so often.? On the other hand, I haven't received a silver coin in change in god knows how long!

Personally, I still love to find them just because they're old and they're something different than normal old clad.

Here is a photo of the first one I found in my first fews days at this hobby :)

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

As with anything else you can deduce from empirical observation, the presence of wheats at a site may indicate your "in the zone" for silver from that period as well. But then again, remember how many wheaties were minted, and their ratio to silver, visibility to "eyeballers" past and present and you can see why there might be some sites where wheats so dominate while silver really eludes the hunt. Yep, love digging them as much as any coinage.

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

You're right that where wheats are silver can't be far behind. Here's an example from a razed lot across from our post office: no date Buffalo, 1912D, 1941D, and silver ring.

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I hate them....... too numerous, hard to clean, and most are pretty much worthless. The ONLY good thing about finding wheaties is that they let you know there is a good chance of silver coins in the same area. I'd rather find a modern corroded zinc penny than the average wheaty.... because i can spend the zinc , but cant seem to bring myself to spend a wheaty.

Re: your opinion of "Wheat Pennys"

I found 3 wheaties in one hole about 2 weeks ago about 3 feet outside of my front fence. A 1941, 1942, 1951. My house is at least 80 years old. So I am always looking around the yard. Dug a 1964 quarter about 3 days ago in back yard. I tore down a small shack in the backyard around 5 years ago and found a 12 guage shotgun under it. God Bless everyone.
