Keith, yes it does fold up into a neat little package. Here's am add in July issue of Lost Treasure. It puts the actual size into perspective without pulling out a tape measure. Brilliant advertising!

Problem is I haven't quite found enough gold with my GMT to pay for it yet. (about 1/2 oz. at todays prices)
Would have to find 3 oz. of pure gold to pay for the SDC 2300 though.

Weight is my concern as rumor has it HEAVY which makes it horrendous underwater?? Jus' a question as looked but weight seems to be missing in many places?John

Heavy is right! I have the military version which uses the same platform and it's not a lightweight or designed for ergonomic comfort. I wouldn't really call this "waterproof" either. It's good enough to be used in the rain or if you drop it in a puddle.

The Minelab GPX 5000 MSLP is $5999.00 So I suppose that's what makes the SDC 2300 mid-range at around $3600

Wake me up when someone who knows the detectors involved tests the SDC against a TDI SL, AN ATX with the 8" mono coil and a GoldBug 2. JP in OZ clearly prefers it to the ATX, but his level of trouble with the ATX falsing doesn't seem to be replicated by folks here in North America. NOTE I have just been reminded that a previous US reviewer had clearly noted the falsing issue. I had an ATX and used it with the coil cover. I had very little falsing, but it may vary greatly with ground conditions or there may be variation from detector to detector.

At nearly $4000 it needs to be twice as effective as an ATX and three times as effective as the the TDI SL to be worth it.

it is also compact and waterproof but it isn't light. With batteries installed, it weighs within an ounce or two of a GPX 5000 with Doc's Gold Screamer installed.
