I found these on Doulphin Island, which is next to Mobile Bay...Mobile, Alabama. Anyway, I can't figure out what they are??? Are they encrusted pieces of silver, balast from an old ship, Ore of some sort???
Any help figuring out this mystery would be greatly appreaciated. Note: There are numerious antient ship wrecks in the Mobile Bay area. I found them about two months after the big hurricanes of this past year. They were found on the beach.
Thanks

Dauphin Island. Very possible pieces of fragmented cannon balls, or crushed cannons. A lot of cannons were destroyed to be moved to refineries. Don't know what kind of detector you are using, or if you are hunting with a detector. Most newer detector can pretty much tell you if its ferrous or non-ferrous. Try a magnet to test for iron. Did you find the pieces near the west end or east end near the fort? I am also from Mobile.

It looks very much like iron ore. Maybe from an offshore wreck. There are many in the area.
