I've metal detected for 6 years but never tried it on the beach. So i've decided I'm going to the beach next weekend to try.

Are there any important things i should know.

such as where do i detect? Along the water, in the water, or way up by the dunes?

I only have a whites standard detctor, they don't sell them anymore to my knowledge, I'm assuming getting the coil wet would be a bad idea. But i'm not sure.

any other stuff i should know is appreciated

One of the best places to learn about beach hunting is the The Goldenolde......Click on the beach and water hunting link on top.

After you read it, if you have more questions I and many others here will offer answers for you. Sorry I'm lazy today and I would just be retyping a lot of what is on the link. ;D
