Depends on which Captain Thomas Beale you are referring to? If you are referring to an actual Captain Thomas Beale with the last name spelled different sometimes, there were about eight of them. But if you want to know where the Captain Thomas Beale that buried the illusive Beale Treasure then you will never find where he is buried as he only existed in the mind of the writer of the Beale Papers.

Was it Mrs. Morriss personal diary that are portions of the Beale Papers?

Finding the truth here would be better that the Beale treasure itself.

a good read though.

I have read most all of the threads related to this topic and I really just want to ask a question, w/o all the squabbling and nonsense about who is right/wrong; I mean really - who cares?

Where was Captain Thomas Beale (Beale, Bealle, whatever) buried and when?
Is there any record for his place of burial ???
TJB...? Buried within the pages of the "Job Print"... 1885.

No handwritten account of Beale's perilous adventure treasure tale, the alleged stay with Morris and later at Buford's that could confirm that portion of the story exist, nor the original handwritten manuscript or the "letters" have been known to exist once the pamphlet was printed and placed on sale.

On a serious note: ECS -

reading your opening thread you would like proof to facts, asking this question 200 years later, Oh Boy! ...

Robert Morriss - related to Robert Morriss Jr, one of the signers of the DOI - Fabricated fact!

reading your list up to and before the Key: This information would have been gathered from research also you would note on page 43 of the pamphlet the unknown author mentions again the contents of the box "But" also
mentions he/she leaves out a document by describing it as "unimportant character". sort of makes one think -

As far as the "Key Letter" not being delivered, someone clever in reading the pamphlet would have already come to the conclusion that even without the "Key Letter" the actual "Key" is in full plain view.

As far as Ward being the Author of the pamphlet i find it strange, page 7 especially - confusing.

The fire only destroyed the pamphlets. The box and it's contents have to be in someones possession if it existed in the first place, by reading about Mr Morriss and his reputation and people that knew him one would
ask why would someone make up a story like this knowing living relatives still exist. Also did anyone research or look for the "Booking in Ledger" of the hotel, this sort of history must be stored somewhere.

Col W. Friedman followed in the footsteps of Herbert Yardley the founder of the American Black Chamber. Friedman studied the Beale Papers (Beale Ciphers - very debatable) in which he was intrigued and introduced
them into his training program. Because he couldn't "decipher" more to the point make sense of them he wrote a statement stating "these ciphers to be of “diabolical ingenuity, specifically designed to lure the unwary reader.”

In recent times a document written by Pres. Thomas Jefferson and "encrypted" by himself has only been deciphered, that document was encrypted 200 years ago. Many have tried to decipher this document including the use of quantum computers. A computer is only a processor, a very fast calculator that understands machine code, it requires someone to instruct it a command for it to process and so on.

on closing: a Book written by Simon Singh - The Code Book,

He studied the Beale Cipher and stated - " This matter concerns just three messages, and, because they related to such a valuable treasure, Beale might have been prepared to create a special key text for the first and third ciphers. Indeed, if the key text was penned by Beale himself, this would explain why searches of published material have not revealed it".

If all Treasures of the world were easy to find we wouldn't have forums on discussion and great people to share their knowledge with.

Most thing regarding a "Treasure" bring questions and road blocks and many scratches to ones head, but reading, research, perseverance lead to more understanding and a foot more forward than yesterday. Yet another 200 year mystery.

On a serious note, not quite sure at what you are driving with this post about the list on post #1 concerning speculative misinformation posted as fact.
As much as some want to believe that DOI signer Robert Morris Jr was related to the Robert Morriss character of the Beale Papers, he was not.

Yes, Charles Button also stated that his sub-editor, Sherman (Ward's cousin), wrote the Beale Papers treasure story.

James Beverly Ward's father, Giles, and cousin John William Sherman were both members of the LYNCHBURG THESPIANS theatre group.

When one researches James Beverly Ward's extended family, Risqué, Hutter, Kennerly, Hancock, Sherman, as well as his wife Harriet's to Buford, Otey, Morris, Mitchell, the source material for the locations and some of the names in the Beale Papers become apparent through the literary constructed ambiguity of the job print pamphlet.
