I believe the most interesting nonfiction book I have read is was "The Dictionary of Misinformation". This was printed sometime in the early to mid 70's if I'm not mistaken. The book was chock full of little goodies on how sometimes what you learned in school wasn't always correct. Three examples that jump off the the top of my mind are the following. How many can you get right?

1- What color is royal purple?
2- Who invented the Steamboat?
3- What is "Big Ben".?

Answers below

1- Red
2- It wasn't Robert Fulton, that is for sure!!
3- It is the bell inside the clock!!
