So as the season draws closer to the end we usually have a couple of trash pits that were stored away in the back of our minds. I decided to hit a couple of them just to see what I might be able to snag up. Had to probe a bit to relocate the first one as the mowers had taken the small branch that I marked it with earlier in the summer. Took about 2 minutes and I figured it was only 4 feet max depth. Easy as I was by myself on this one. Started off with what I kinda knew what I was going to see. 1905-1915 stuff. I usually hate to dig these as they are too young a pit. But ya never can tell. I was having a bit of a tough time hitting the usual steel and rusty cans. I found out why, it was a bike. Looked like something American Pickers would love to have. Ha ha. Once that was out of the way I started finding ketchup bottles. The scourge of all pit diggers!!! Then to my surprise out pops a pint blob beer. Sweeeet! Never thought I’d see that. Then another. Then another. What the heck. Pretty common ones but what the heck. I’ll take them. I also found a Watermans Ink. Continuing my Ink bottle streak. Most of the other stuff was some common Miles Nervine and Caldwell’s Pepsin. Not too shabby for a late season trash pit. The other one I did was a continuation of a trash area just 20 feet away. A lot of digging and only saw a pile a smashed crock jugs. Ovoid jugs, and some civil war era bottles that were in pieces. Obviously smashed before they were tossed in. So no luck there. But as I usually do at the end of the days digs I go probe some more. Low and behold I found two actual privies to keep in mind. Hopefully the streak of inks will continue or something even better. Good luck out there. And be safe. Jgas. That era of pits always hold out the hope of a local dairy or pharmacy bottle....so I dont mind getting into them as long as they arent too deep or have a bicycle buried on top. I would be happy with that beer, great job.

Yes, definitely worth the small amount of effort. That wheel looks awful small for the bike. You can see how the spokes were thicker and spaced further apart. Thats definitely an old one. Good score on the ink and the beers. Hope you get some goodies out of the other privies. Good luck

I'd be more than happy to bring that little haul of bottles home, nice finds. Make sure to take us along with you when you dig those new privies. Dig 'em soon, don't make us wait all winter!
