Got the nephew back out to do another pit or two. I think the boy is hooked! Had to deal with some bricks early on but not too many. Then finally hit some glass that was really pretty close to the top. A Peckham Croup Remedy and a couple of FAD Richters. No big surprises but they were glass and starting to pop up.
I let him pretty much slay this pit by himself. Just teaching him the ropes as far as stuff like not to dig beyond the wall into the sugar sand. Under cutting the walls just cause you see a bottle and you want to see it quickly. Stay calm and go straight down. He would soon know the reason not to under cut the wall areas. The collapse starts and it’s a whole lot of more dirt to toss.

In any case he was tossing some dirt and came upon a cool porcelain sign. Polar Bear Tobacco. Now you don’t see that in a privy every day. Soon we would find a tooled crown top beer. A pint. I always like seeing these. Even though they are right around the turn of the century. Still nicely embossed. Then out pops another first. A Humphreys Homeopathic Veterinary Specific. Complete with an embossed horse head.
Then a nice local hutch. Otto Zipperer with a mug base. Several small fruit jars and the usual broken slicks. The strange find of the day was another first for me. A small glass vial with a doll inside. I guess it’s a Frozen Charlotte doll. Totally bazaar.
Pretty good time he had pulling some glass out of the ground. He is charged up and ready for the next one. Maybe early next week. So be safe out there everyone. Happy hunting. Jgas. Hello, I love your Post, stories and especially the bottles. Do you ever worry about a cave in? I have seen you down there pretty deep and If you got buried up to your chest even you might not be able to breathe . Im sure you know what your doing, would love to try it myself someday, but just curious of the precautions you have to take. Thank you, Paul:coffee2:

Man, the “kid” is definitely hooked. Glad to see some young blood get into the hobby. I like the embossed horse and the doll/vial. I think that’s my favorite on this dig.

Pganjon, thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m pretty safe on the digs. We don’t tunnel. This one did a bit of a collapse towards the end. I’m 6’3” and most of our pits are around 6 feet. No worries. I have been in some really deep ones. The older I get tho the more safe I become I think.
Bass and Pikes, that vial just creeps me out a bit I’m not gonna lie. Strange. Always something different. Jgas

Great glass, but that Polar Bear porcelain Door-Push is AWESOME! Hopefully a chem/oxalic soak can get it cleaned up.
