I have read in a couple of places that Forrest is counting on whomever finds it going public. Since that has not happened he is assuming that the treasure is still where he placed it. Here is one site that I read that on. I don't remember the other, but it said the same in a little more detail. The Thrill Resource Page | Old Santa Fe Trading Co
Whether it is/was in Yellowstone on Federal lands, buried with his parents as some people have hinted at, (which is why I think he said it's not in a graveyard.) in the mountains North of Sante Fe, if I find it I know I will be keeping my mouth shut and you folks can keep looking and assuming it's still out there. ;-)

Stop hiding gold in NM...

...hunters there can't find 20 tons, how do you expect them to find 20 pounds? lol

Hi all and, yeah, I first heard of this after FF collected celebrity status.
I put in 25 - 30 hours of work on the poem using about a dozen different approaches before I decided to google FF
and get a little background. Once I put aside anything involving curses, informants and the abc's I still
kept arriving at the same slant...Why would anyone do this? I pictured myself stepping out of a bathroom on a Christmas eve
and announcing to everyone that I have just completed my quest of flushing a large portion of our nest egg
down the toilet. So, I digress...so, maybe it is actually is hidden...I try a few other approaches and then learn that two
groups have been within 500 feet of this cache....? This is where I lost complete interest in going forward. Why was this even divulged?
If it is true it has given an unfair advantage to those hunters that have searched.

As far as the poem itself...word for word. I could strike a small arc on 4500 different location on this planet and 75 percent of those
would connect something brown and heavy with some watery canyon creeks. I couldn't even placed it North America.
If it is legit then it will take more time than I care to give...hey it took nearly 7 months for the crackpot team from Sweden to solve Singh's
tenth challenge and for what, notoriety and $15K?

Good Luck

Forrest has said it is in the Rocky mountains, so I'm not sure what you're referring to where you'd be outside North America searching. It didn't take me 30 hours on Google to find that.
As far as why he did it, if it is real, (Which I believe it to be.) He did it initially because he was diagnosed with cancer. He was given a couple years, but he recovered and is now in remission. My understanding is, at that point, he simply did not want to go back on his word.
I agree with everyone that there are tons of potential locations, but that to me is part of the fun. I've always considered myself quite the problem solver. And to me that's all this is.
But I have an optimistic view that even if the search is in vain, I had fun doing it. And no one says you have to devote yourself to only one cache. You could spend your hard earned money on lamer things than treasure hunting.

The thing that gets me about this story is that lifetimes, of time, have probably been spent trying to solve this story that looks like it belongs in Bulfinch's Mythology written in 1913 and time is the thing you can never replace. But I guess there are a lot of sheeple following the Forrest goat. Frank...

You'd be a hit at a children's hospital.

The thing is, when some calls you a clown, you always consider the sourse!

They are. Frank...<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=791890"/>By the way, did you solve the puzzle yet? It's easier than Forrest's.

I wouldn't devalue a clown like that Frank.
For claiming your MO affiliation you aren't latching on to their core values very well.

I didn't know you had posed another puzzle to me. The only puzzle I'm working on you don't believe in.

Danno, I think perhaps you read things into what you are reading and miss other things. I would think The Corp. would have done a more through job with observation logic. I did not devalue clowns, to the contrary, I showed them as a valuable asset by drawing the parallel to the Shriner activity. If you go back and look, you will notice that I didn't claim to be a Shriner.
You didn't know I had posed a puzzle? How can you miss a picture that big? Go back and carefully look at the post. Good luck, Frank...

One of the downfalls of a smartphone is small small pictures. I'll give it a look when I get back to my computer.

I caught your parallel but I think you're giving yourself too much credit.

Frank... I hope that was your attempt at a joke because the puzzle itself was quite easy. It took me longer to circle them all in paint than it did to find them. The flowers were even in there twice.

And by the way Frank, it's "Corps" if you're going to talk about the few and the proud, do it correctly.

Also, the parellel between you and shriners was drawn by you when themarkd said "you'd be a hit at the childrens hospital" to which you replied, "The shriners always are." Now I realize that is not a direct admission of affiliation but due to the implausible nature of anyone's ability to discern tone through writing; your sarcastic tone was overshadowed to the reader by your more common trend of gloating. Which in that respect would have been read as you telling everyone how much the kids like you, although I can't fathom why.

Danno, well lets see how I can help you out. I was in the Army for 8 years and we speak a little different, like I was in the 21 corp.
My answer " The shiners always are." was answered by you.
Now this is baffling. You mention the implausible nature of anybody's ability to discern tone through writing, and then you state " your sarcastic tone".
It appears you don't fit in with anybody. Of course I do sometimes love sarcasm. lol
Now as far as the kids, I raised 5 and I was an assistant Boy Scout Master, and I worked with the kids in little league. I got along with them very well and was well respected by them.
By the way I made up that puzzle for the kids at a local fair. You did very well.
Good luck on the Forrest quest even though I think the loot resides in his vault. No one has disputed my logic on that with facts. I think our biggest different is age. Being 75, my logic covers a much larger field of experience. Frank...

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=792139"/>Never more!

Basically it's impossible to know the tone outright. Therefore the tone is implied. Your general nature doesn't come across as sarcasm so the natural reaction is to read it as gloating.

As far as fitting in, I'm not much of a follower. I do what I want as it suits me. I happen to take an interest in the FF story. So, I will ride it out till it's found or Forrest outright says its a fraud. I don't need to fit in, I do just fine being me.

A good pal of mine Pat is a scout master. His boys are up for eagle. Pretty prestigious. They have a lot of woods knowledge.

Since we're swapping about me's I did 8 years in the Marine Corps one pf those in Iraq. I'm engaged with no crib midgets yet. I have done all sorts of high altitude/snow/desert/jungle survival training. I have always had a keen eye for problem solving and puzzles. Which by the way if that was a homemade puzzle, it wasn't half bad. I bet the kids liked it. I'm also known for being brutally blunt and honest. I don't hide, and my friends and family respect that. I don't much care for things to be sugar coated. Which is most likely why we butt heads.

But sometimes its for the best.
Don't hate too much.

I don't hate life's to short and most of mine is gone already. I do however get even. lol One of the boys in my troop earned his Eagle by rebuilding a historic train station. It still looks good and that was way back.
I know what you mean. I live my own life the way I want and only answer to the man upstares and he has been good to me. I agree, I think we are both a bit bullheaded. I have fun with challenges, kind of a little spice to life.
The cache I am going for was buried during the first WW. It is about $110,000 in $20 gold coins so you can imagine what it is worth now. The big problem is getting permission to hunt the guys 5 ac. I will be going up there as soon as the weather holds for a week. Frank...

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=792190"/>I guess I can put the cat back in the bag, lol I do some photographic work and exploit elements a lot.

WWI stuff is fascinating. My prized possession is a WWI Iron Cross 1st Class. Although it's not exactly a cache, I know it is authentic because my great grandfather picked it up during combat and passed it down to my grandfather a WWII vet who passed it down to me as the only family member to enter the service after him. Here is a pic:

$20 dollar gold coins are very interesting. I have a large collection of old money but I doubt I have anything like that. I need to re-catalog it all pretty bad.
