Let me share something with all of you. In June of 2009 a search of Forrest Fenn's Santa Fe home occurred by federal agents. It resulted from visits by a confidential informant and other secret surveillance of the dealer in Native American artifacts from the years 2006-2009. Here's an obvious question. after reading and researching this story... I think it was a ploy to sell books...

If it is real... it will be found by accident and I bet its close by... if it was me and I was that age I'd keep it close so I could see if someone found it.

I am a 10 hour drive from this area... I wish I could go.... but the skeptic in me says naaaaa

Pure speculation. He sold his gallery many years ago and lives a lavish life style. I would guess that his money is long gone, the IRS is on his *ss, attorney fees are piling up and he needs revenues.

And the archies are all over him for grave robbing on his property.

And you think he is giving away gold and artifacts for any Joe Blow that happens to find it?

I live in the real world where the rich like to stay rich or get even richer. How would the world know whether it was never found or never planted?

Are you jaded because some reporter got you and your buddies to go to his house for a story? Are you being used as an advocate? Think about it.

I live about 45 min south of santa fe and could take several day trips per week...however the 'north of santa fe' suspected location is very vague and could be as far north as Cimerron, Questa or even further. If there are some folks on this thread around my location, I would be willing to contribute to the physical search and\or sharing some ideas regarding clues in the poem. I am an avid camper\hiker and have been up in those hills often, Pecos especially.

Nah. Not jaded at all. Im actually out of the hunt with the advent of the recent tv appearance. Sullied the romance of the quest for me. I just happen to be convinced he's genuine in his motive about the box. Its out there. But like Chukers said, his apparent over interest in being a "name" disinterests me.

If it is fame that the grave robber wants, he would hide it in as easy spot so that it would be found in his lifetime.

After he is 6 feet under, he will either be remembered as:

The man who hid a fortune. Or
The man who said he hid a fortune to sell his books and get attention

Fame after death is a legacy. Fame during life is power and $.

If it is there, it will be found.

I'd question any reporting coming out of MSM -- pulled assumptions and interpretations abound.

I'm the Mark Dreyer on page five. The writer (Tony) got a few things wrong, but generally, it's close. Forest's original plan was to walk out and just die with the treasure. Then he kicked cancer.

I live in Pa and will never make it out there to look for this, however this line caught my attention Mark.

My initial opinion withought breaking the poem down is that it would be on property that he owns, so when someone finds it, it truly is there's - nothing the feds can do. If he can just walk out and set up a camp to die with it, it is probably in a cave, probably a higher altitude, blaze being the sun, or sun shining on something.
Does he own any property that fits this description that he literally could just trot out to, maybe live a day or two with some provisions and then kick it?

In the book he said he'd planned to take a gun with him...take that how you will.

I'm not convinced its on private property. I think if you look at his character, he doesn't care much for big brother and his claim; and as such, those who find it might be advised to feel the same -- as he says, just take it and go in peace.

Possible. I did not read the book, and this thread is the first time I have read of the poem through.
But the take it and go in peace part could mean hey, if my dead body is right here next to this box, don't worry and feel guilty, it's yours.
I understand his treasure-seeking habits, but with the investigation and the way laws are now, would he want someone else being under a microscope like he was?

San Lazaro is south of santa fe ...actually only about 20 miles from my house. Would be worth it to take a day trip there to look around though

The poem said something about a canyon, I'm guessing the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve because on a website it said something about Santa Fe mountains
