If it is the tape & not the glue

just soak it in Warm water till it loosens.

Water won't Harm u.S. bills.

Heard that a few dips and blots in MEK (Methal Ethal Ketone will loosen adhesive. I"ve tried this on other materials but not currency. Just a tip experiment at your own risk.

I Would try

WD 40 on a Cotton Ball or Swab to remove any remaining
Stickum after. I would also Then use a little Dish soap water
on a Cotton ball or swab to remove the Oil.

Try this on another bill first.

As I don't know if it will Effect Color.

I do Know WD40 removes Duct tape stickum From My Detector parts.

All types of BFOs owned. Especially want White's Arrow; White's Oremaster; Exanimo Spartan Little Monster; Garrett contract Little Monster.
if there are signatures on those bills then they are short-snorters and worth more as war relics than as paper money. siegfried schlagrule

Jeff, Have you tried this on paper items? What results did you get. I've also used WD to remove all kinds of gunk from metal, but have been leery of trying it on paper and such. Thanks!

I'm back, yes the notes that I have are Snorter Bank Notes from World War II different countries & with Military Personnel signatures on them, some have up to 20 signatures. I don't have access to the MEK mentioned. I did use warm water to remove the tape, it took 30 minutes to get front & back tape off the right side. However, the water creeped up the note reaching the signatures which started to smudge them as I'm sure that the ink at that time was not waterproof. I let the note dry & it was quite sticky, so I used the WD-40 with cotton ball and that took about 20 minutes, still ended up with rubbery spots, so I just rubbed them off and vola, after an hour I got 1 side done as shown in this attached picture with finished product. Notes are probably worth $1 to $5 with some notes being very thin paper. To sum it up, I'll just leave the tape on the notes. Thanks for the info & help. PC
