My computer died and I just got it fixed, so I'm just now posting this story. About a week ago, I picked up a box of nickels from a different branch than I usually go to. Boy, am I glad I did. It started off slow with only a few pre-60s and the occasional Canook. About halfway through I got a silver war nick, which was nice. A couple rolls later, I found another one! Alright, I'm thinking, those make up for the slow start. I'm finishing up the box and I've got a nice little pile of keepers, plus my two silvers, and I open up the last roll. Looking right back at me were TWO MORE war nicks! I was amazed to even find another one in that box, let alone two in the same roll!

Totals from that box were
40P x2
41P x2
46P x2
47P x1
48P x1
48S x1
52D x1
52S x1
53P x1
55P x1
56P x2
56D x1
57D x4
58D x2
59D x2
60P x1
60D x3
68S x1
69S x1
70S x9 <- I've found a ton of these in my past two boxes. Any reason why they're so frequent?

42P x1 <-Silver
43P x2 <-Silver
45P x1 <-Silver

Also got my first holed coin, a 46P with a nice hole right through Jefferson's head. XD

mintage figures

1968-S 103,437,510
1969-S 123,099,631
1970-S 241,464,814 <--- (higher mintage than any pre-1960 nickel except 1943-P which was a war nickel)

basically they are common.
