with CRH?

Here was mine:

The first time I got $250 halves from a bank next to my gym that I went to. Every roll has the word "clad" written on. But I need to fill the book so I still went through every coin then I found a 1967. That was amazing but not hooked.

One week later I got $100 from another bank they are all 1976 except one 1966. Not hooked but would try one more time.

Another week passed by I got another $100, skunk.

Another week later I ordered one box, found a 1964 by looking at the date of each coin. The 1964 was very dirty and covered with black mess.

Then it was a Saturday I decided to drive around. I went to this bank 7 miles away my home and the lady had $160 in the vault and she almost did not mention it to me. So I waited and finally she was free and went to the vault to get them for me. I checked the rolls in the parking lot and every rolls had silver coins in it. There were 4 bens, 26 64's, 1 66; 8 67s; 7 68s, 5 69s. That was the first time I saw a Benjimin half dollar. That was the moment that I fell in love with CRH.

Please share your experience, Did you get hooked the first time when you tried or did you fall in love after several trials? How many were the silver?

I was hooked right away. I had been lurking on the board for a while, then decided to try it myself. I got $30 in Brinks rolls, and in my very first roll found a 40% and a Booker T commemorative. I wound up getting another $50 right away, but was skunked on those. But right from my first roll, I knew I was in love with this hobby.

Well saw someone post on another Forum about searching for Silver in Bank Rolls, so went to my bank and asked for a some rolls, she said they hardly ever see them Halves come in, "but I can order you a Box if you like", ok! an into my 3rd month and have just over 600 silver now.

Came in the next week and, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, just standing them on end to line them all up saw at least 20 silver on ends; in the end every single roll had at least 1 in it, one had 11, and in all that box had 264 I went back to my teller & ordered 11 boxes for the next week- they only produced 95 total and 1 Skunk in the 11, but I was hooked like a drug addict 4sure; have had to increase my fixes & strategies to turn waste product into FRN's to keep my order system flowing. My teller was freaked out too, so keep my boxes from her limit 2 and occasionally rotate orders to another branch.

Booker T in the first roll? That's unbelievable!

264, that is a number will make anyone fall in love with CRH! How lucky is that for the first box!

I've always hunted coins, mostly from casinos, but never halves. Some time in 2004 I noticed my clad half collection hadn't been updated in a few years so I brought home $100 from the casino where I work to fill in the holes. Back then I never knew about NIFC's and figured silver had been long picked out of circulation. Wrong! Not only did 40%ers show up now and then but 90% JFK's too! That was my "Aha!" moment.

The following February I did a survey to see what was really out there. I brought home $100 in halves on fifty separate occasions and chronicled the results. I "fell in love" the moment I found my first Ben (1952), was head-over-heels when I got my first Walker (1942) and considered myself incurable when the first Barber appeared (1906-O).

Can I assume those of you who found a gold coin, a Barber, a seated, a key-date walker/mercury/wheat, key-date Ben, old silver commemorative, will never be cured?

About two years ago I read that silver halves were still in circulation. Out of curiosity, I went to my local BOA and asked for halves. The teller said she had $280. I asked for fifty dollars worth. I opened one end of the first roll....you guessed it all silver (clad). I bought the rest, and again, all Silver. Needless to say I was hooked.

Since then I have filled a $500 box with silver clad and almost filled another with 90 percent! Great hobby!

30 years ago. I was 16 and remember going thru the old man's pocket change every nite. Lots of wheats still in circ and a silver coin now and then. Then I graduated to coin rolls, had less silver finds then than now! Remember, silver peaked near $50 an oz, and everyone had been hoarding for some time. FFD

I can't say there was an exact moment as I started collecting coins sometime in the early 1980's (between ages 5 and 10) by going through my parents change jar (fairly frequently) and started CRH'ing officially sometime before I was 10 when I started to ask my mom to go the bank to get $10 worth of pennies for me, but I can't say the exact year or what started it all.

I have been on again/off again my whole life since then, but didn't get into large volumes until about 4-5 years ago when I moved to my current house and was only about 30 minutes from a local casino which I started frequenting late at night on weekends to search for nickels and the occasional silver quarter. Not too long later I started ordering boxes on a regular basis. First pennies and nickels, and then slowly into the rest of the denominations as cash became available. Now I do bags almost exclusively as its just that much more efficient time wise and easier to make fewer stops to get larger volumes.

Of course the past few months, I have been falling way behind compared to what I was doing as my social life has been quite a bit busier and other things I want to do as well have been piling up around me. Someday I'll finish searching through my April pennies....I think I started the first bag of April pennies around April 28th or so if that's any indication....Bigger denominations always take precedence as to improve cash flow. :)

$280 of silver for one batch and the first batch! Some people might have a heart attack!

It is interesting to know that you found more silver now than 30 years. I remember that I got a batch of $250 hoard which has two solid rolls of 90% and 3 rolls of 40% last year. The teller told me that a son turned those in from his deceased father's collection.

When my college roommate (Jack_Mightyheart) first introduced me to TNet and CRH back in the fall and I've been hooked ever since! I credit him with all my meager finds and coin knowledge! ;D

Well I actually didn't find a gold coin, but I can dream...

Being in love with CRH is tough. You start off with a good box (beginner's luck that happens so often) then just as you're sick of skunks and getting discouraged she gives you a little success to keep you going. :tard:
