"the Canadian dime is magnetic due to a distinct metal composition: from 1968-99 it was composed entirely of nickel, and since 2000 it has had a high steel content."

up untill part of 1967 canadian dimes were 80% silver , for part of 1967 untill part of 1968 canadian dimes were 50% silver. The same is true for canadian quarters. Canadian halves and dollars were 80% silver untill all of 1967.

Coinflation.com is another good source for information. Please note some info may be confusing and some advice gotten from others may be wrong....including mine.

I rarely find Canadian coins, but I have always wondered how to tell if a 1967 dime or quarter is 80% or 50%. :dontknow: Do they weigh differently?

I thought Canadian coinage of that year would be magnetic if it wasn't silver, since nickel is magnetic. Haven't tried it.
