On the pins, aren't the nibs just gold plated? Do they have much gold value.

They say 14k on them. There are gold plated ones as well. IN the lot I purchased, they were all supposed to be 14k gold. 3 ended up being plated and they took those 3 off the total price for me.

As for the gold value, it depends on the nib and its size. Some nibs might be worth $15 or so in value. Some are worth more. I am not sure if I made money or lost it yet on these pens but I bought one lot of 9 pens for $180 and I am hoping to have $225 in gold in that set

Another set I paid $17.50 for and I am hoping for about $30 worth of hold between the nib and the 1/10th 14k gold filled pen

and the black base with two pens I paid $20 for and I should see about $50 worth of gold out of those.

Sadly the prices of the metals are tanking today and its only 6am. Gold is down to $1409 an oz and silver dropped has dropped $2.22 so far today to $23.63.

Something big is about to happen.

Hey EE.. Number 4.. The Ashtray... How do you know that is sterling? My mother actually bought one of those for me at a garage sale and I couldn't find a marking on it anywhere.. Did they make both sterling and plated ones? I was just never able to determine if mine was in fact silver.. I would appreciate any help you can give me... Love the post by the way.. COngrats on the awesome finds..

The bottom of the tray says PERU 925

IMAG0085.jpg

As for them making plated ones, that I would not be aware of.

2 boxes of brinks halves searched today, both dark roll boxes, both skunks.

5 boxes due on Friday, Auction on Friday looks to have a little promise. Saturdays part 3 of many estate auction so far shows nothing interesting to me but the lamp but there are two more days worth of pictures to be uploaded so hopefully something interesting shows up.

Todays auction didnt see me getting the lamp I wanted, it went for 3 times more than I was willing to pay.

I did make some decent scores though.

I got the pens weighed up, the guy didnt want any of them, I lost a little money due to misjudging the weights but hey.. it happens to the best of us so its part of the game.

I did well on two flats of jewelry though, pulled out a ton of gold filled.

I picked up a sterling compact for $14 and on the way home hit an antique shop that buys gold and silver and traded it for a $31 junk gold ring.. easy money.

I also got a preview of next Thursdays auction and the some of the stuff from the estate.. I NEED MORE MONEY, about time to get a second job.

Estate Auction 4 of many is this Thursday at 6pm, its a box lot auction so each box will be sold as is, not individual items. Some pictures have been posted.... my oh my.. I think I need more money. Going to see about getting a small $2,000 loan from my mom for a week and anything I buy will be sent off to melt for profits.

Pictures so far of this 400 box lot auction. I have yet to see a single piece of silver plate at this auction so you can see from the pictures released so far, why I am so excited for this auction. I might not be able to hit the Friday auction because I might be out of money at that point. I might even have to sell the silver to the local coin shop instead of hitting NTR metals myself and lose out on an extra 20% because I will be using my spare cash and my CRH funds to purchase with on Thursday and I have 6 boxes due on Friday to pick up.

It is also known to me that they have Paul Revere Silver still yet to be auctioned off ( could be in future pictures ) along with sterling candle holders etc.

And I will have 90 minutes or so to check/weigh everything that interests me before the auction starts lol.

Hoping to add a significant boost to the CRH and Auction funds. Fridays Auction has a lot of Silver jewelery/coins and a auction on Saturday has a sterling flatware set going up with some coins.

Well, I am averaging from this auction place on my last 2 auctions there.

$14.32 oz on silver on 12.1838 oz purchased
$1049 oz on gold on 0.2564 purchased

If I include my first auction with them

$7.38 per oz on 58.9045 oz on silver purchased

So I think that if there is silver there I should see a healthy profit. I am way ahead of my goal right now, well past July and working on Augusts goal so I think its time to boost the purchasing power instead of the silver hoard.

Well, I only got one flat out of everything, Most of it was silver plate with a few sterling items lurking inside 4 boxes. I let Vlad the Ukrainian get 3 of the boxes as I really only wanted one. I got my box for $12.50 in it, it contained numerous plated pieces, most of which I should be able to resell as they are in good condition and in sets. Also included were

Mangled sterling spoon - 0.7770 oz
Tea Spoon Norway 830 Silver - 0.6225 oz
Large spoon dented 750 silver - 1.1700 oz
Sterling pie server handle - 0.4440 oz ( didnt find until I got home )

$12.50 for 3.0135 oz or $4.15 oz

I have auction tomorrow and 2 on Saturday so I will be rather busy along with 6 boxes of halves tomorrow.

All boxes were black ink brinks halves. That brings my current skunk streak to 15 skunks in a row. My current all time record, which was set last month was 16 in a row so its possible Wednesdays boxes will break that record for me, or at least tie it.

Its a damned good thing I hit auctions as well as I cleaned up once again.

I am running low on cash so I might end up cashing in some of this loot at a refiner soon and turn that extra money back into even more gold and silver to replenish the wallet for more buying. I made $1.63 this month in profit on every $1 spent, I nearly matched this months paycheck, which shows how pathetic my pay at work is, lol.

On a side note.. I am due a raise, I need to see why it has not come through yet... more money to make more money with isnt a bad thing.

Went to the store to buy lunch for work, as I was leaving I saw a couple putting change into the coin star. I asked them if it would be ok to purchase anything that the machine rejects for my nephew, they said it was ok.. only a silver rosie but hey, its silver.

Updated above.

It has been like that for quite some time. Its been bad since about July of last year. If it were not for auctions, I would not be making my weekly quota of 4 oz.

And I failed to mention that I did find my first Bicentennial of the Congress Half in one of those skunky boxes.
