Wow, it has been so long that I have forgotten the last box that held silver for me. I bet it has been 18 boxes now. I seem to find my silver in loose coins at the banks. Glad you found some, keep looking.

65-70 is 40%

Post 70 S-mint coins can be either 40% or clad

holy Crap.

silver halves are 99.99% of the time from 1776-1969

And Of course rse the commemorative halves post 1982. and the 1970, and 1976.

I ask because I have a couple 1776-1976 half's and from what I read, Box sets are Silver. I'm assuming a two tone edge 1976 is not silver. Correct?

There seems to be a massive amount of confusion in this thread. 1964 and earlier halves are 90% silver. 1965-1970 halves are 40% silver. 1976 s mint halves can be 40% silver or clad. In addition, starting in the early 90's, 92 or 93, can't remember exactly, 90% s mint proof coins were made. The modern 90% silver halves have a nice white edge like the pre 65. They are very rare in circulation. The 1976 s mint, 40% silver halves are also very rarely found in circulation. Any 40% half is going to be silver clad, meaning a copper core, with a small percentage of silver alloyed with the copper, surrounded by silver, with a small percentage of copper alloyed in. Most 40% coins are easily identified by a mostly white edge with a less pronounced copper(mostly copper) core visible. However, some 40% coins have an appearance very similar to regular clad. They can be identified by year, weight and sound test. HH

in the past 2 months I have gone through $8000.00 of halves. last week I got 2000.00s.

box1 11 40% 1 90%
box2 1 40%
box3 0
box4 0

the first 40% was showing on the end of the roll. I made my wife open it up. she thinks I am crazy. but after finding 13 silver coins she cuts me some slack now.
