2005 dime with what seems to be a mint error

Without pics it sounds like one that got rattled around in a dryer for awhile. That generally beats the rim smooth and makes it appear to be fatter around the edges. Pics will clarify what it is. Here's a couple from Google images. Obviously the longer they rattle around in the dryer the more damage they get.

From what you are describing the only error that comes to mind would be a partial collar strike, we would need pics to confirm?
