Finally got some time off during the week to go hit a local boat ramp. I was kinda nervous at first but once I got it down pat it was a blast. The very first thing I found was a cell phone. Nothing really of value since the electronics were trashed and it took about 3 smashed pair of sunglasses to start using my toes before the big scoop!:BangHead: The stuff in the floating sifter was found the 2nd day.

Yes its a county maintained boat ramp on a very clean lake but even with that I was surprised by the lack of trash and glass.

That blackberry has gold in it prob a couple dollars worth. Prob not worth trying to get it out though lol. I made a floating sifter for river hunting and tie it off to my belt loop I have to pull it back to me because of the river flowing all the time but it works awesome. I would love to do some beach hunting but closest beaches to me are Lake Erie and it's about an hour and half drive for me. I'll be going up again soon can't wait. Thanks for sharing.

The camera should have an SD card if you want to maybe ID the owner somehow.

Thats a good point RGV Digger. I have found submerged Blackberries and the SD Card still worked! had tons of pictures on them, including the person's resume, tried to make contact but they never responded, phone was toast.

I have since got kicked out of this boat ramp by the park manager after I had been told by the park rangers I was fine. I told him I wasn't leaving until the FWC told me I had to go. One came and he said he watched me for awhile and agreed I was doing nothing wrong....getting in the way of boats etc but that the park leases the water from the state so they had the right to tell me to leave. I told him no problem I just wanted to know why I had to leave. He then told me I could always get in after hours (per boat I presume) and I explained I don't do lakes at night because of the Gators. We both had a good laugh and I went on my way.

Can't stand the regs in these parks in Florida. I can't imagine what the beaches would be like if detecting wasn't allowed. We're basically free maid service! It's obvious from your pics that your hauling out mostly junk from the lake, which should be appreciated! Hopefully you work some angle and are able to get permission to get back there somehow, maybe get in touch with a State congressman or the like, work the system!

Dave, in state parks, go to the park superintendent, he has the last say pertaining to the park. Show him your pictures, explain that you are providing a free service to them, ask how many children could have cut their foot on the trash you removed. If he/she agrees your home free, the rangers must abide by his/her decision. Doesn't hurt to get it in writing, incase he/she is off and you are confronted by a ranger. Explain that you are only going to work the water/beach areas, not the camp sites.

I have hunted several state parks, but I always see the park super first to gain permission. I take pictures or a bag of trash to show them we/I am providing a free service to them. Stress that you are making their area/waters safer for the people using it.

Its not a State park not a County Park. State parks are strictly off limits in Fl. You can hunt this park anywhere you want he just didn't want the liability of me being in the same general area with boats that where putting in and out. He already knew what I had removed from the water because I had turned in all of the tags, some which were still good just incase someone inquired about them. It is what it is, Ill just move on......

Now you have me confused Dave, what is it a city park?

I have to disagree with you about the state parks being strictly off limits. Only fed parks are totally off limits, state owned and operated parks are at the digression of the park superintendent. Unless Fla has passed some law that I'm not aware of. I have hunted a lot of State parks up and down the east coast, each one always talking to the park superintendent first and gaining his/her permission and stressing only on the sandy areas ie: beach to dune line, and definitely not in the camping areas.

If you would be so kind as to point me to the law stating state parks are totally off limits, I would definitely appreciate it.

Take a season off from hunting that boat ramp and hunt some other places. What do you want to bet when you return in a year or so nobody will remember giving you the boot! Plus taking some time off from this place will allow for a lot more stuff to accumulate. Maybe hunt at a lower traffic time next time?

Sound like the ranger was just worried about some idiot with a boat running you over.

This should help clear things up. Swinging on state land is one thing but digging it out or removing it is another. And anything over 50 years old up to the high tide mark is also against the the law but obviously not enforced in the metal detecting world. I'm pretty familiar with Fl. State laws, they are very strict on is arrowhead hunters.
