I would contact a trusted attorney and ask him how do I go about getting paid without getting jacked up (tax man, irs, burglers) in the process. If its gold maybe sell it little by little to a few places over the course of... a long time. And I would keep my mouth shut to EVERYONE on this planet as to what I found! I think on my first sell I would get the best metal detector that has been made, then I'd take a month long vacation hitting beaches up and down the east coast(in my new RV), then I would go on several Carribean vacations and hit all of the beaches south of the border.
Yup.. that's what I'd do...
Oh, and I'd donate some of the money to my fav local charity.

Tell only your most trusted family members, then hire a CPA, and a lawyer.

I take it home in as many trips as is Necessary

:coffee2:

I Have to be Honest I Would NOT
call a lawyer.

First thing a Lawyer would do is Charge me for the Consultation,
Then he would insist it must be reported.
Then he would Charge me to fight & try & get at least a share of it back.

Till the Lawyer is done I May break even if I'm Lucky.

& Only have a Warning to post here.

SHUT UP !!!!!

You definitely asked the wrong question......

The correct question to ask is: What treasure?

Rule 1: Never find any treasure.

I'm working on one now.

Don't really want to say much more. I'd rather have some pics.<G>

As for what I'd do with it, most would go in several safety deposit boxes, prepaid.

I might have to take a piece out and sell it: maybe 1-3 pieces a year.

When you find a REALLY big one figuring out what you can say (through your mouthpiece-lawyer-representative) will be different than saying something here.

Several thousand dollars face value a long time ago, so more than would fit in one safety deposit box. Gold has increased from the $16/ounce value then. I anticipate finding objects similar to those found on the Brother Jonathan, but without annoying exposure to salt water. Or minimal exposure many years ago. Probably none, but until found who can positively say?

Several years ago through OTTH, met a guy who had found 2 $10 Mormon coins. He sold them long before I met him. I might have to do the same.

Or set up a non-profit like the Gates Foundation. Some of the objects already found on-site were gold. Some weren't. All of them worth big $$. Doubt I could spend even $50/face in a year.
